(Click on underlined Ministries for additional information.)

Worship Ministry is responsible for all liturgical celebrations and assists in the planning of major feasts, seasons and special liturgical celebrations. This ministry cooperates with the Ladies Altar Society in planning the environment for these celebrations. The worship committee meets seasonally.

Music Ministry raises our voices in song and praise of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Music ministers serve at the Sunday assembly and at other special liturgical celebrations as members, cantors and instrumental accompanists. Rehearsals are weekly.

Liturgical Ministers

  • Altar Servers: Altar Servers are boys or girls in the 4th grade or higher who assist the priest at the altar.
  • Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion: Help to distribute communion at Mass and bring communion to the homebound.
  • Ministers of Hospitality: Welcome and greet parishioners and visitors as they arrive for Mass and assist with the collection.
  • Lectors: Readers who proclaim the Word.
  • Anyone interested in becoming liturgical minister should call the church office.

Parish Religious Education Ministry aims at enriching the faith life of the youth of the parish not enrolled in Catholic schools. The purpose of catechesis is to enrich a person's faith by becoming living, conscious, and active through the light of instruction.

  • Sunday Preschool for children ages 3 – 6 is held during 10:30 am Mass in the Kindergarten classroom of the school building.
  • Children's Liturgy of the Word takes place during 10:30 am Mass for children in grades 1 through 3. Children leave the assembly after the Opening Prayer and return at the Offertory.
  • Confirmation Program: Confirmation is celebrated in the fall semester of the junior year of high school. This is a 2½ year program which begins in 9th grade for all of the youth of the parish.  Contact the church office for further details.

Spiritual Life Ministry is responsible for coordinating the adult faith life of the parish, providing educational opportunities, planning and preparing events for the sacramental life of the parish, and empowering parishioners to share their gifts with the whole community. A new aspect of this ministry is to invite parishioners to become a member of a Small Church Community. The Spiritual Life Ministry committee meets monthly.

Reaching Out Ministry reaches out to the community in a variety of ways.  Ministry volunteers are helping to feed the hundreds of out of state volunteers that are helping to rebuild Lower Plaquemines Parish.

CYO/Youth Ministry provides opportunities for all teenagers (grades 8 through 12) of the parish to come together and experience community through its spiritual, social, recreational, and service activities. Adults serve as advisors on the Youth Ministry Committees that coordinate, and chaperon our many activities. CYO general meetings and Youth Ministry meetings are held monthly.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) is a process of prayer, study, discussion, sharing, and celebration for unbaptized adults who wish to learn more about the Catholic faith and possibly become Catholic; and for baptized non-Catholics who want to learn more about the Catholic faith and possibly become Catholic.

Small Church Communities offer a more personal experience of church. Many parishioners are part of these Small Church Communities, which consist of small groups of parishioners (six to twelve) who meet in each others’ homes to reflect on Scripture.

Pastoral Care Ministry reaches out to the sick and bereaved families. This ministry also coordinates bringing Communion to the elderly, the sick and homebound, bringing them to church for some special celebrations during the year and visiting those hospitalized. Meetings are held quarterly.

St. Vincent de Paul Society is an international Catholic organization of lay men and women who seek, in a spirit of justice and charity and by a person-to-person involvement, to help those who are suffering, poor, homeless and financially disabled. This ministry is also responsible for promoting the social mission of the parish. Meetings are bi-monthly.

Community Affairs Ministry coordinates parish fellowship events. It organizes the receptions following sacramental celebrations and fosters deeper fellowship within the community. This ministry is entrusted with nurturing a stronger bond between the Church and the local community. Meetings are held as needed.

Temporal Affairs Ministry periodically inspects the parish plant, makes necessary maintenance and improvement recommendations, and plans parish workdays to help improve facilities. Meetings are held quarterly or as needed.

Vocation Ministry was formed in 2003 to pray for and support vocations in general and to encourage vocations in our own Church community including adopting a seminarian in his last year of formation.

Ladies Altar Society is involved with the preparation of the church for each liturgical season/special feasts. This ministry strives to create an atmosphere that fosters rich spiritual experiences throughout the liturgical year. Those who have an appreciation and growing understanding of Catholic liturgy or who wish to share their artistic  talents in fabric, art, woodwork, pottery, etc. are invited to bring their talents to the service of liturgy.  The Altar Society conducts fund-raising events that assist in purchasing materials needed for art, environment and worship.  Meetings are held monthly.

Church Cleaning: The church is cleaned on Saturday morning at 9:00 am The Altar Society welcomes volunteers to assist with these duties. Anyone wishing to help will be placed on a team to work once a month. You need not be a member of the Altar Society. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcoming Committee: The Welcoming Committee finds ways to introduce newcomers to the warmth and caring ways of our faith Community as well as provide materials to acquaint and invite them to participate in the many enriching activities of our parish.  Members of the Welcoming Committee visit each new family and introduce them to our Community. The committee hosts periodic get-togethers for newcomers. If you are a people - loving person or family, enthusiastic about our parish community and wish to share our spirit with newcomers, the welcome committee needs you!
